order out of chaos

Tuesday, January 1, 2008

Some semblance of order is starting to emerge out of the chaos that is our home.

To be honest, the last minute court date had us scrambling.
We had hoped to put off the court date for a week, but when I finally talked to our agency on Monday morning they told us that if we didn't do it now, (a) it wouldn't look good for us and (b) court could be put off indefinitely.
Nothing like having no choice but to move forward to kick your hiney into gear - is there?
Thankfully, we are starting to come out of the other side of this stressed-induced fog and are slowly but surely getting things checked off the 'To Do' list.
- The airline tickets are reserved.
- We have a babysitter.
- And the jobs have been notified.
Now we just having to come up with the financing.
It will come.
In the meantime, instead of a day of football, food and fun, we've had a day of laundry, cleaning and last minute chores.
It really wasn't so bad. We did have moments of fun in there...it's just that it definitely wasn't our typical New Year's Day, but then of course, there's nothing typical in this family right now.
Instead of watching football, taking naps and eating way too much food, we pulled clothes out of storage (I certainly hope she's really a 4T as the measurements indicate).
We set up a toddler bed (because we don't have time to go shopping for her 'big girl bed'...we'll wait for her birthday in February), we watched a bit of the outdoor NHL hockey game (don't ask me why - we're not huge hockey fans), Meshack and the kids did some sledding in the backyard for comic relief (I wish I had the camcorder charged.)
And I ate too much chocolate.
It's good for my nerves.
Purely medicinal in nature I assure you! ;)

I'm tired reading and thinking of all you have to do before you leave. Thank goodness family or friends will be taking care of the three here at home. I'm sure the next few days will find you making your daily visits to Wal-mart. Make sure you have a good supply of chocolate to pull you through.

Happy New Year!

Just like you said, it will all come together. :)

You've accomplished the two biggies: tickets and babysitter. Everything else will fall into place. All the effort will be SO worth it when Maddie finally gets to come home! - Melinda

Hey Tami - Be aware that when you take Maddie to the US Embassy on your way out of Kiev that the visa fee went up from $380 to $400 effective January 1st. (Gotta love our US government.) So, have an extra 20 bucks on ya.

I mailed you a card yesterday. You should have it by tomorrow.

Yup, if they scheduled a court session in Odessa, it's better to take it, otherwise, you can wait for a long time to reschedule it!

Looks like you had a fun New Year's Day - did you watch the Buffalo Sabres game by any chance?

I can finally post comments now that we're home. I've been chomping at the bit to tell you how excited and happy Mike and I are for you. We followed your blog while in UA and we were praying for a happy ending - and all the prayers by your family and friends have certainly been answered. We will be eagerly following your journey to bring Maddie home!! Happy New Year!

That chocolate can do wonders, can't it? LOL!

Sounds like you are doing great, even with the chaos.

Can't wait to read more as you have your court date!

Audra January 3, 2008 at 4:24 AM

Hi, this is Audra from Kiev, we met at church. We would love to see you when you are back here again although we know you will be busy and we will too. We have a team in Odessa and know some great people there if you need help etc. We are so excited how God worked everything out. Please email me if you have a chance. I am also interested in hearing about the woman who was with you here.

Congratulations on finding Maddie! I just now had the time to check your blog. (I'm sure you know how it is over here) The last I read you were going home after not being able to see a boy.

Our court date will be on Tuesday, the 8th. We have to have two dates, so we may have the 10th also, but are hoping for the 9th.

I don't know how Odessa is, but it is EXTREMELY COLD here where we are. Bring warm clothes.

Sounds like you will pull everything together just fine! I'm so glad you get to go back so soon!

I am so excited for you! I know it's chaos right now, but as you know, it will all come together. It's great for your children than Meshack can return home so quickly, but I feel for you being there for so long without him! Of course, you'll get through that too, and you'll have your precious little Maddie with you! I can't wait to see pictures! Happy New Year :)

Jenni January 3, 2008 at 6:53 PM

It may be chaotic right now, but everything will come together. I can't think of a better way to start the New Year than bringing home a daughter!

I really can't imagine all that you have going on right now. It seems so undoable. I can see how taking New Years off was not an option. I am so excited to see a picture of your little one. Do you have an account set up were friends can send adoption support gifts? We are checking in regularly for updates!
