in print...finally

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

After three years of half-ditch efforts, commitment phobia and downright procrastination, today I finally did it.
I finally finished Maddie's adoption book. ;)
It's a book that has been 1460 days in the making, but it is finally complete. Whew.
It's not a book so much as a narrated picture album. I took the blog posts from Finding Maddie and combined it with the photos we took of our journey and came up with a 100 page masterpiece - or at least you would think it was a work of art with as much work as went into it.  ;)
I have to admit, I'm relieved. I wanted to get this done much sooner, but I hemmed and I hawed about which company was best to use and which one would give me the best deal. These things are EXPENSIVE! And I knew to have it the way I really wanted it, it needed to be all or nothing.
So I waited. And my patience (gasp) paid off. A few days ago I stumbled on coupon code that allowed me to get a 100 page book from My Publisher for only $35. I saved more than 80% of the cost.
Awesome. I knew this couponing thing would come in handy some day.
The book is being printed right now and should be delivered sometime next week. I'll be sure to take a pic of it when it comes in and give you Maddie's full review. ;)

Great job, Tami! You're inspiring me to get a book done of some of my "adventures" and life here in Ukraine! Blessings on you and your family!

Love the cover.

How did you find such a coupon? Any hints for us out here on coupon sites/deals?

One word of advice - Have the kids look at the album with parents there to avoid dirty fingerprints. This is a book Maddie (and her child/children) will really treasure.

I bett he book is beautiful as you spent a lot of time and put so much thought and love into making it.

Did you do one for the other 3 too?

Tina...I found those coupons by signing up for the emails from the book companies. They're constantly sending me messages with offers for a percentage off a book...but this one was SPECTACULAR! I knew the book was going to be pricey because I had so much I wanted to jam in there. This coupon literally saved me around $80! I've seen a lot of other ones that will let you get a free 20 page book...all you have to do is pay for the shipping costs. I like to use those for vacation photos. I have three or four of those. I haven't done the other kids' yet...but I will. Alek is next. I need to get his done, especially since he's only a few years away from heading off to college ((sniff)). I just wish I would have been blogging at the time. It think that's going to make Maddie's book that much more special.

I bet it will be splendid. I love the cover.... Of course now I feel like there is one more thing I OUGHT TO DO.... Well, four more - one for each kid. Five, for Maxim.

Sheesh.

I LOVE My Publisher. We did books for grandparents at Christmas using My Publisher. Now I want to do one of our vacation. If you come across another great deal for them, let me know!

i've been making yearbooks for lexi--but haven't printed them yet. i'm planning to order TWO copies--one for us to look through and me to keep, and another for her to take with her when she leaves home.

(Good thing that day is a long way off!)
